Trendhumper: Marching Band Jackets

trendhumpercoldplay2_main.jpg
In this age of extreme individuality, sometimes the situation just calls for a uniform. To match the vague French Revolution theme of their latest album Viva La Vida, Coldplay has been rocking military-inspired marching band-style jackets everywhere they go, from iTunes commercials to magazine covers.

But Chris Martin and company are far from the first ones to try out this look. The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Adam Ant, Chris Brown and Kanye West have all pulled out variations on the style at various points in their career. Will the marching band jacket make it to the streets, or will it remain the momentary fashion statement of overpaid musicians? Vote whether to “hump” or “dump” this trend below.

How do you feel about the marching band jacket trend?

wow, you ^^ stole my thoughts exactly. yea, i’d venture to say any group of men, not on stage together in a (at least) moderately popular band, wearing matching jackets would be ridiculous on all counts.

There are a lot of people who, like me, were marching band geeks in high school and wanted their own jacket, but simply didn’t know where to get one.

Of course, it would take something a bit more authentic than the typical Hot Topic Black Parade knock offs to get me to open my wallet.

Whether that demographic is ‘trendy’ enough for mass appeal or not…

I love their jackets! I think the military inspired look is for the bold. I just bought this vintage military style band jacket recently. It’s real elaborate. I love it so much I can’t take it off!!
