In the Heights Brings Hip-Hop To The Tonys

emuanel-tony.jpg
Last week, Complex featured a Q&A with Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator, composer, and star of In the Heights, a funky Broadway musical flavored with hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and reggaeton. And then last night, at the 62nd Annual Tony Awards, he and his crew won prestigious awards for “Best Musical,” “Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics),” “Best Choreography,” and “Best Orchestrations” for the show about Latinos living in uptown Manhattan (There was never really any doubt'Complex only rolls with winners).

On theater's biggest stage, Miranda, who made his Broadway debut with In the Heights, gave his first acceptance speech in rap form and waved a Puerto Rican flag he'd produced from his pocket in celebration. The word on the streets: It's now officially okay to say you enjoy musical theater. Watch him spit his acceptance speech after the jump. ¡Bien hecho, papa!
