5 Fly Puerto Rican Girls Who Aren’t J. Lo

antijlo_main.jpg
When it comes to Puerto Rican women, sometimes it seems like mainstream pop culture can’t get past Jennifer Lopez. We’ll always have love for Jenny from the Block (so many good times!), but damn, there are plenty of other boricua stunners to set your sites on.

In honor of this Sunday’s Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, we thought we would remind you all of a couple ladies who have roots in our favorite Caribbean commonwealth. Check out our rundown of 5 ladies from the worlds of film, music and modeling below.

Rosalyn Sanchez

It’s been damn near seven years since this Complex ‘03 cover girl stole the big screen from Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2. Now she stars on CBS’ crime drama Without A Trace. Her Complex photo spread still beats ‘em all. Take that Brett Ratner!

Adrienne Bailon

Consider this half-Puerto Rican/half-Ecuadorian singer the Beyoncé of 3LW. The real superstar of the young R&B trio has gone on to act in Disney TV shows like The Cheetah Girls and That’s So Raven. Recently she’s been linked to Kim Kardashian’s brother Robert, and rumor has it they might have recently gotten married.

Melonie Diaz

This around the way girl from New York’s Lower East Side has been likened to Rosario Dawson for her cutesy looks and for making a splash in the indie flick the A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints. Somebody let her know that we’d like to grab a margarita with her at The Hat on Stanton Street.

Susie Castillo

Susie Castillo is actually part Puerto Rican part Dominican—still the best of both worlds. The MTV VJ became Miss U.S.A. in 2003, then landing a role in Disney’s Underdog, which she promoted being photographed under bed sheets in the pages of Complex. She now has something for your face (eff Proactiv) as Neutrogena’s spokeswoman. Makin’ moves ma! See the rest of her Complex shoot HERE.

Reagan Gomez-Preston

Better known as Zaria Peterson on Robert Townsend’s family comedy The Parenthood, we knew Reagan had grown up when we caught her co-starring with DMX in Never Die Alone, and portraying Young Chris‘ boo in the video for “No Better Luv.” J. Lo who?

  3. …i don’t think you should be rippin’ on jlo for her birth place. you can be just as proud as your heritage w/o having been born in PR. i don’t think that makes her (or me) any less boricua. but i’m with you on wearing fur (member of PETA right here!)
