Take A Ride On The Hot Rod Couch

couch-lead.jpg
After losing the eBay auction for the O.G Batmobile, we’ve got a new fantasy purchase: this one off hotrod-turned-luxury couch. It’s like the grown-up version of the race car beds that every asshole rich kid had back in the day.

Artist Fred Bailey took the body of a hot-rod, tricked it out with custom headlights and taillights and then managed to make it comfortable by incorporating black leather material for all you fancy couch potatoes. Although the design process of the couch was involved, the piece breaks down into three sections, making it easy to transport around the crib. The auction recently kicked off with a $39,999 starting price, but it ended on Saturday without getting a single bid. We’re waiting for them to re-list it at a lower price before we make our move. See more pictures of the couch below.

Just to clarify, everything on this piece is custom made. It didn’t start with a hot rod, just metal. Every inch was designed and hand built by the artist. The point here is ART, not furniture design.
Yes, this gorgeous, origional, ‘one of a kind’ piece of meticulously handbuilt metal sculpture does function as a loveseat but it’s definitely no sex couch, lols.
George Barris (the ‘king’ of Hollywood’s custom car builder’s) was so excited with this piece last summer that he spent a lot of time talking with Fred and getting pics. of the wife and himself sitting on it so he could show it to Jay Leno. To those who haven’t seen it in person I can assure you, the pictures don’t do it justice.
Fred is a masterful metal sculpter/artist/painter and his uncompromising attention to detail is truely impressive. Current works in progress include another ‘one of a kind’ couch design and an amazing 12-15′ (metal) dragon sculpture. BRILLIANT Fred…easily worth $100,000
