Jane’s Addiction Relapses With A Full Reunion

left to right: Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins
Being called the “fathers of alternative rock” is what’s referred to as a backhanded compliment, but if there’s any group that can claim that title, it’s Jane’s Addiction. Next Wednesday, the group’s original lineup will perform together for the first time in 16 years at the inaugural U.S. NME Awards at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. (Jane’s is receiving a “Godlike Genius Award,” which is what’s referred to as a slight—but only slight—exaggeration).
Three-fourths of the group (singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, and drummer Stephen Perkins) have reunited a few times in the past, but this is the first time bassist Eric Avery’s joined them since the band closed out the initial Lollapalooza tour in ’91. Which of course got the older ones among us thinking about our favorite Jane’s moments from the late ’80s/early ’90s. Check out 5 classic videos after the jump.
“Had A Dad” (1986), produced by a French TV station.
“Ocean Size” (1988)
“Mountain Song” (1989)
“Been Caught Stealing” (1990)
“Classic Girl” (1990)

Good for you that you have reunited after a long time.

The last time Jane’s Addiction made a bid for success, it culminated in the end of the band at the very height of their popularity. After delivering two classic records in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the Los Angeles alternative rock band earned the kind of critical and commercial attention heaped only on living legends. They were often described as the “Led Zeppelin of alternative rock.”

In medical terminology, addiction is a state in which the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physical dependence, as in drug addiction. When the drug or substance on which someone is dependent is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms.
