Steven Spielberg Goes 3-D With Ghost In The Shell

ghostinthespielberg.jpg
Looks like Steven Spielberg might be ready to jump on the anime wagon. Not long after Leo DiCaprio announced his intention to produce Akira, Li'l Stevie has convinced Dreamworks to nab the movie rights to classic cyberpunk manga Ghost In the Shell'and adapt it as a 3-D live-action joint.

The original anime adaptation had a huge stylistic influence on the Matrix trilogy, so we can only imagine what double-S has in store with a 3-D version. In a perfect world, it'll be like Minority Report, but with more hot Japanese lady cyborgs and with less Cruisiness. Of course, it likely has to wait for Tintin and the Abraham Lincoln biopic he's got lined up, but never underestimate the fast-tracking power of nerds with discretionary income. After the jump, check out the opening sequence to the original Ghost In The Shell movie.

I hope to god its not like minority report. GITS is one of the greatest intellectual stories of all time. It needs to be elegant and match what up to date fans have of knowledge of the story. The very first movie involved the AI being deemed “The puppet master” who saved motoko at the very end of the movie. I hope he doesn’t fuck this up.

I hope they don’t fuck up ghost in the shell and bring it into 3d live action. It’s great show how it already is. If they do make it its gonna turn out very fucked up movie. my opinion

Zhang Ziyi for the Major. (Did you see Memoirs of a Geisha? The scene with her debut where she performs that dance? Major Kusanagi. Watch it and see…)

Ron Perlman as Batou. Same build, face would pass, he does anime already (Afro Samurai) so he’d have some reverence.

Togusa? How about the kid from Letters from Iwo Jima? A bit young perhaps, but I always got the impression that Togusa was a bit younger than everyoner else anyway. (They were all cyborgs so who knows…)

Just please don’t fuck it up. Please?
