Nike Rides With The BMX Dunk

Nike is currently holding an “Innovation Summit” out in Portland where Bejing Olympic technology is being unveiled to international media. Among a slew of new awesomeness slated to debut during the August games, comes the BMX Dunk, a makeup put together so United States, Chinese and Japanese athletes can rep the swoosh during the newest Olympic event. To make the iconic shoe BMX-friendly, Nike incorporated a stiffer sole as well as clip technology for more efficient pedaling'an interface typically reserved for shoes that look like complete shit. In addition to the dunk, Tet from (W) Taps designed Japan's BMX racing gear (check the ensemble after the jump), and O.G. BMX legend Bob Haro of Haro Bikes designed the full team USA kits.

The shoes photographed here were made to match the racing gear, but athletes will be able do their own colorups for the games. Expect some iD-like clip shoes come August.
As it stands, the Dunks are for Olympic athletes exclusively, but when asked about the future release possibilities, John Martin, the Creative Director for Nike Action Sports, said, “There's never been something this steezy in a clip shoe, so you never know who is going to appropriate something like this…who knows where it's going to go?” Translation: look for the newest track bike accessory to hit Spring 2009. Let the games begin.
