Brand Profile: United Colors of Benetton

Italian apparel company United Colors of Benetton is getting in the face of consumers yet again with a powerful new ad campaign. This time, the brand best known for ruffling the feathers of censors by featuring their rich designs with arresting imagery of violence, sickness, and death, turns their attention to the issue of poverty in Africa.
Thanks to the financial backing of Microcredit, which gives loans to small business owners, the African economy is getting major help beyond Sally Struthers. The most recent ads prominently feature the toiling faces behind all industries, from market vendors, to mechanics. See a few of the T-shirts benefiting the worthy cause, and take a look back at some of Benetton’s other controversial ads after the jump.
