Back in 2005, Milk Studios in Manhattan was crammed with the downtown set, all hailing the nostalgic ridden exhibit known as “The Pony Project,” where mostly female artists and designers were invited to decorate and customize one of the most iconic toys of the 80’s that little girls loved: My Little Pony. Well the show was a success, and now it looks like Mattel is trying to mimic the same concept with their upcoming Hot Wheels exhibit on April 1st—don’t worry, we thought it was just an early April Fool’s Day joke too. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of their signature die cast cars that were very popular among little boys, the toy monster asked a slew of hip and emerging artists—too many to name see official flyer—to customize die cast 9×5 inch blank vans or submit paintings for their “Toys” exhibit. We present a before and after done by Jon Bugerman & Stu Witter after the jump.
