Nike + iPod Take Their Act Indoors

When Nike + iPod tech debuted almost two years ago it allowed runners to keep track of their workouts and performance, listen to music and have a tiny voice shout encouragements into their ear holes. Since then the Nike + web site has logged millions of miles run by users. The duo recently announced plans to bust into two gym chains, Virgin Athletic Health Clubs and 24-Hour Fitness (the sponsor of America’s favorite blubbering blubber parade, The Biggest Loser), as well as working with several manufacturers such as Life Fitness and Precor to implement the NIke + iPod tech into stationary exercise machines. Here’s hoping the technology can recognize when a guy is on an elliptical so the little coach voice can call him a pansy. Expect to see the first roll-out of Nike + iPod in gyms this summer. www.apple.com
