Behind the Scenes at BET’s Rip the Runway

BET's programming is funnier than you think. The potential for a few LOLs is there outside of its embarrassingly funny-looking camera hams. Granted, last night's taping for the annual Rip the Runway fashion show had the potential to be another train wreck like an episode of Hell Date, but it went off even with a few minor snags.

We laughed with Nelly (not at him), as he misread the Chiron on two separate occasions. His only response, “I can count numbers.” The amount of pancake butts that slipped into Nelly's Apple Bottom wares was laughable in it's own right, but still made us do a double-take.


N.E.R.D. also strived for perfection with two performances of their latest party anthem, “Everyone Nose.” Pharrell and his homie Shay, were joined by a pack of hypebeasts whom probably gave up their coveted spots in line in front of Supreme to join P on-stage. The irony of the rousing performance was accompanied by the waif models strutting the high-fashion styles of Zac Posen, while Pharrell's song about powdering your nose put coke-heads on blast. Haha.

During one commercial break, the deejay kept the crowd's energy high spinning current hits from Kanye's “Flashing Lights” to throwbacks like BBD's “Poison.” On the side of the stage, the Retro Kids went into their stale dance routine of the Wop, and Running Man acrobatics'just enough to distract the security. Meanwhile, one of their homies ran onto the empty runway to get his solo act on. When security caught wind of it, they whisked him away, humpty dancing his way back to being a lowly spectator…boo hoo.

The joke was on us though as we stood with our jaws dropped the overflow of models (not in the show) kept passing us by in their low-rise jeans. Crack is a helluva drug, seriously. Tune in tomorrow, March 4th on BET to catch the show in it's flawless entirety.
