Polaroid Shutters

polar.jpgBack in the day if you wanted to shoot naughty pictures but didn’t want the kids working in those photo kiosks to duplicate your 100 film or 35mm photos, your only option was the Polaroid instant camera. Sadly—for nostalgics at least—after more than 60 years on the market, everyone’s favorite blurry photo spitting camera is fading for good. The company announced a few days ago that it will be closing down operations. They basically stopped making the signature instant cameras about a year ago and manufactured enough film to last through 2009. But once that supplies runs out, that’s it. So better start stocking up now if you’re still living in the 80’s and haven’t had the common sense to snag a digi in the past decade or so. To honor the camera that worked it’s way into pop cultural ephemera, these guys did a little tribute, compiling some of the best Polaroid relevant YouTube videos. Personally, our favorite is the ‘Swinger ad’ where the instant camera maker was blatantly honest about it’s pervy applications. See it after the jump.
