Rap Sheet: And the Winner Is… The Menahan Street Band?

- Sound off: That “Roc Boys” riff that everyone’s been going nuts over? It was made in Brooklyn… Bushwick to be exact. The Menahan Street Band put out a single, “Make the Road By Walking,” that was discovered by Diddy’s production team and then pitched to Hov. The founder of the band, Tommy “TNT” Brenneck, was quickly contacted and before he knew it, was chilling in the studio with Jay-Z himself. “I asked him if he would shout out the Mehanan Street Band and he laughed at me. Meanwhile, he does the song as an encore with some corny band that plays the bass line all wrong. If the next 10 years of hip-hop is going to be sampling white kids is in Brooklyn, lets collaborate,” said Brenneck. Click above to hear the original.
- Early release?: Foxy Brown claims she’s learned her lesson after more than 5 months at Rikers. She’s hoping to get out earlier than her release date, April 20, so she can deal with her “progressively deteriorating hearing loss.”
- Times have changed: Talib Kweli on why Hip Hop might be bigger, but not better (than say ten years ago), “The mainstream perception of hip-hop has become so bloated that mainstream culture is now very dismissive of hip-hop, now more than ever before.”
- It wasn’t him: Duck Down Records artist, Rock from Helta Skelta, was arraigned on attempted murder charges. His lawyer had this to say, “The Brooklyn District attorney's office allege that Mr. Bush shot a known pimp and bloods gang member in the neck paralyzing him. They also allege that Mr. Bush is a pimp and this was a dispute over an alleged lady of the night. Mr. Bush categorically and unequivocally deny all charges.”
