The Weekly NFL Wrap Up

Brian Billick
Kissin’ and Bitchin’ in Baltimore: The Ravens aren’t afraid of anything. That includes the Patriots offense, blowing kisses to Rodney Harrison from the sideline (Billick, it got a little weird by the third pucker), and blaming their loss on the refs and a conspiracy by the NFL to shepherd the Pats to the promised land of 16-0. Ray Lewis and company went at the Partriots all night but couldn’t stop them on four fourth-down plays (well, except for that one time the Ravens called a timeout) in the last two minutes. Ravens DB, Chris McAlister said of the game, “It’s hard to go out there and play the Patriots and the refs at the same time. They put the crown on top of them, they want them to win. They won.” Despite the fact he’s talking about conspiracy theories, McAllister sounds a little more sane than Steelers cornerback, Anthony Smith. He’s already gone out and guaranteed a victory over the Pats this Sunday.

Tangentially Related Felon Continues To Ride Patriots’ Coattails: The biggest winner of the Patriots’ hot streak? Mercury Morris. ESPN keeps trotting out the former Dolphin running back and cocaine trafficker to prattle on about how the Patriots aren’t even close to matching the perfection of the ‘72 Dolphins and never will. If the planets align the Fins could remain winless till week 16 and tarnish the Pats’ run at the record when they play at Gillette Stadium. It’s a longshot, but if it comes through we’ll all get the chance to see Morris spontaneously combust from joy overload on national television.

Jared and ReggieSubway Shill On Thin Ice: New Orleans running back Reggie Bush has more on his mind than just the possibility of losing his Heisman. After muffing a pitch on a reverse last week against the Bucs that kinda cost them the game Reggie said, “It’s been tough for me, because nobody in the world has higher expectations than I do for myself.” The rest of the Saints seem to share in the disappointment. Drew Brees voiced some displeasure with Bush saying, “Reggie is one of the best athletes I’ve ever seen. But that only gets you so far. There are certain fundamentals and there’s a certain discipline to playing this game, and that’s learned.” Unfortunately for Reggie, and Saints fans everywhere, the only beacon of discipline in Reggie’s life right now seems to be Jared Fogle.
