Burton Encourages Snowboarders To ‘Sabotage Stupidity’

There’s still four ski resorts left in the United States that hate snowboarders and refuse to let their kind on the slopes. Burton, clearly unhappy with this, decided to create a contest that is sure to wreak havoc for skiers. Their “Poach for Freedom” challenge encourages riders and crews to let loose on these ski only resorts and promises $5000 to the best video footage documenting the transgressions. Whether for legal reasons or to make people do a little investigation, they don’t mention the four anti-snowboarding resorts, but we do:

  • Mad River Glen, VT*
  • Deer Valley, UT
  • Alta, UT
  • Taos, NM

Check Burton’s website for details on how to submit video and updates.
*Snowboarders are supposedly allowed to ride on the mountain but can’t take the only chairlift up.

  1. I love this idea! I’m glad someone is doing something to encourage these mountains to open up. What do they think snowboarders are going to do to their pristine ski utopias?

  2. I’ve just read in today’s local paper(12/18/07) that Taos lifts it’s ban March 19, 2008. They chose that date for lifting its ban out of fairness to season pass holders and vacationers that “had bought their passes and made their plans before we made the announcement, we felt like we needed to honor our contract with them.”(Aspen Times) So very soon there will only be three, lol.
