Swiss Army Knife On Steroids

This 85-in-1 function Wenger Swiss Army knife has about 81 functions too many. What more do you really need than a blade, herb scissors, a toenail clipper, and a bottle opener? Sure it comes in a “stylish” gift box, has a battery operated crack pipe torch, a laser, and over seven blades, but it’s cumbersome, measuring 9 inches wide . Even more shocking than it’s sheer size and multi function-ness though, is the fact that it’s not only sold out, but that it’s also selling for $1200 a pop. How many rich wannabe MacGyvers are out there buying this hunk?

When I first saw this picture on the Web, I double-checked the date to see if it was April 1st! That kind of over-the-top marketing might be why people are singing the praises of the new Leatherman Skeletool (see http://www.leathermanskeletool.com, where I first read about it) as an alternative to the Swiss Army Knife. Are there any SAK initiatives out there anyone knows of to go much smaller, lighter, and way more streamlined rather than bigger and more complex?
