Hovie’s Home

Last night the Jay-Z faithful laced up their Goadomes and braved the blistering cold weather to watch music's American Gangster perform outside of Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Steiner Studios. The mini-concert, which will air on BET's 106 and Park tonight at 6 p.m, saw Hovie hit the stage along with dime-piece back-up singers and a multi-piece band.
As soon as the drums dropped to “Blue Magic” the sea of hand-made Roc diamonds were thrown up, and the frosty temperature was an afterthought. After 106 and Park hosts Terrence and Rocsi urged Jay-Z to go back-stage for a short intermission, Hov declined, cueing up the horns and launching into his latest-and-greatest “Roc Boys” record. As the song concluded he said “I was supposed to only do two songs, but I'm going to go in a little bit.” Go in he did, the rest of the set included archived hits like “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” P.S.A,” “You Don't Know, “Where I'm from,” as well as cuts off the his latest #1 American Gangster album, like “No Hook,” “Hello Brooklyn 2.0,” and “I Know.”
Artist-to-crowd chemistry is hard to duplicate when a star not only performs in his hometown, but is also a stones throw away from Marcy Projects where it all began, and for Jay-Z he's fully aware of the bond he shares with his fellow Brooklynites. “In Brooklyn, they not only connect to my music, but they connect to me as a person,” he said.
My, man.
