Scoring Dig Dug
This gets big a big score for originality points alone, but once you add the nostalgia factor and 8-Bits of reverence, this Dig Dug theme being played on the piano video takes us back to a time when there were actual arcades. This cutesy, garden set video game, was released in 1982 by Namco, and unlike Defender, Robotron: 2084, or Tempest, didn’t require coke-like reflexes or offer lighting fast gameplay. Like Pac-Man, you were guaranteed to get at least a few minutes of fun with a single quarter, even if you sucked at killing “Pookas” and “Fygars,” or worse, were toy enough to drop the rocks on yourself. It was basically a mellow game for stoners in the 80’s who couldn’t master Moon Patrol, but thought Frogger was too pussy. See the key banging homage after the jumpage.
