BANKSY’s ‘Spacegirl and Bird’ Painting Fetches Astronomical Numbers

1.jpg
BANKSY is undoubtedly shaking up the contemporary art world. The witty guerrilla artist is making big headlines again with news that his paintings recently sold for record breaking numbers at an auction house in London. ‘Spacegirl and Bird’ (pictured above) was originally commissioned by British rock band Blur for an album cover and sold for a staggering 288,000 British pounds which converts to a little over 500,000 USD. The spray-paint on steel painting was sold for 20 times its estimate to an undisclosed telephone bidder from the US. BANKSY's ‘Self-Portrait‘ also sold after 6 telephone bidders battled it out. Who knew that BANKSY could break his own record:

“To have the previous record set by the artist broken twice in quick succession reveals how much fascination there is in Banksy by collectors.”

Indeed, but being that most of us have little chance of ponying up $500K, might be time to break out the chisel and jackhammers and hit the streets of London.
