Hip Hop Is Dead In Madison

Hot 105.9, one of the last remaining Hip Hop radio stations to be heard from Rockford, Ill, to Madison, WI, is getting replaced by Hard Rock station The Hog. Sadly, for hip hoppers, that doesn't leave too much of a choice to hear any boom bap. The Wisconsin State Journal reports:

Aside from shows on community-sponsored WORT- FM (89.9) and UW-Madison’s WSUM-FM (91.7), hip-hop now will be aired only on occasion by pop station Z104. Last week’s Top 10 playlists by Z104 and the former Hot 105.9 had only two artists in common: Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.

Ouch. The station blamed lack of advertising revenue for the switch and although they had lots of listeners they couldn't convince advertisers that they were worth hawking products to.

I can’t believe that we live in such an large liberal community and we can’t even keep a hip hop radio station. Our area needs a hip hop radio station…we have like 4 country radio stations, 3-4 rock stations, etc…can’t we have just on hip-hop radio station.

It is such BS, why to we continually give the message that any hip hop in madison is not welcomed? I am so disappointed and wish there was something someone could do to get it back on. They blame closing hip hop clubs in madison because of “fights”, yeah I am sure there aren’t plenty of fights downtown madison bars with uw kids every night at about 2am they don’t close them down, they are constantly making excuses, hip-hop is an art of music just like any other form that dates back hundreds of years, it should be embraced and appreciated, but instead we judge and banish it……give me a break Madison what does it take?
