The door has stayed the same for a really long time. Of course, there are sliding doors and curtains that act as doors, but the standard door is pretty boring: some material (typically wood) on a hinge that opens and closes a gap of the same shape, either between two rooms, or a between a room and the outside world. Austrian artist Klemens Torggler decided that the door needed a facelift so he designed this four-panel prototype that flips out of the way to open, and flips back to close. Watch the demonstration below:
We wouldn't want to use this as a front door for obvious reasons, but the design is still very cool. We really hope that Torggler continues to develop it so we can add them to our homes in the future.
