It’s no secret that countries have stereotypic cuisines, such that some foods are iconic of an entire nation. What is the connection between food and culture? This is the question raised by French photographer Jonathan Icher in a series called “Fat Flag.” Enlisting the help of makeup artist Anastasia Parquet, Icher photographs people painted as flags, stuffing iconic cuisine in their mouths. Whether or not the series is meant to be a comment on stereotypes is a mystery, but some of the models’ expressions aren’t particularly pleasant.
