Mass Appeal had a chance to sit down with one of our favorites, KAWS, on the occasion of his involvement with the Sculpture Plinth exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). We brought you a preview of the show, "KAWS @ PAFA," last month, and this video offers even deeper insight to the thinking of the artist for the show. It’s been a huge year for KAWS, with his involvement in the design of the MTV Video Music Awards launching him into the realm of pop-celebrity, and a grip of solo shows across the globe. But involvement with an institution of fine art seems remarkably prestigious, even in a watershed year for the artist.
Here, he talks about juxtaposing his contemporary work with that of old masters, which is the impetus behind the Sculpture Plinth Exhibition, and how he was "blown away" by the space at PAFA. Watch the interview above and get more information here. The work is on display until August 2014.
