When you hear the phrase “chair made of marble” the first thing that comes to mind isn’t always “comfort.” Then again, we’ve never seen a piece of furniture quite like this marble-leather hybrid lounge chair, by French designer Grégoire de Lafforest. With a padded-leather two-tone seat inspired by ‘70s motorcycle culture, and a marble base that doubles as a side table, this is an absolutely beautiful work of design. The materials and inspiration cross classic and modern boundaries in a way that’s not discomfiting or outlandish. Meanwhile, the hollow-backed base of the marble functions as a storage space—utilitarian and unmistakable.
