Performa 13New York's premiere performance art biennial has announced the event and performance details for their inaugural "Pavilion Without Walls" intiatives, modeled after the pavilions of the Venice Biennale and established to "forge strong partnerships between New York and countries around the world to foster new and deeper levels of cultural and artistic exchange."

The Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls is a collaboration between Performa and the Royal Norwegian Consulate General of New York. In partnering with Norwegian institutions, Performa will host performances from Tori Wrånes, Marthe Ramm Fortun, Jumana Manna, and Lina Viste Grønli, among others, with site-specific shows, documentary works, and musical compositions. There will also be a "Performa Radio" event and a concert series entitled "Voice is the Original Instrument," which will explore the history of voice as it is used in performance by presenting a range of focuses from male and female voices, to "screamers" and "avant-pop."

The Polish Pavilion Without Walls is made possible by Performa and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Polish Cultural Institute New York, and Crikoteka. The events scheduled for this pavilion include: workshops and interventions staged and designed by Paweł Althamer and his artist and chef sons at the bar Biba in Brooklyn, an "immersive and rowdy" installation by Radek Szlaga and Konrad Smoleński with Los Angeles-based noise musician Dean Spunt that is said to simulate the "confusing experience felt moving between homeland and Promised Land," and lastly an "architectural intervention" by sculptor Katarzyna Krakowiak.

Performa 13 will be the fifth edition of the biennial and is set to begin on November 1 at over 60 locations around New York City. For more information, check out the Performa website here.
