Canadian artist Jon Rafman recently opened his first solo-exhibition in New York at Zach Feuer Gallery. The exhibition, entitled "You are standing in an open field," features "visual landscape" installations that speak to the ways in which we use artifacts to relate to and remember the past. Rafman uses contemporary artifacts as faux-relics, including Dragonball Z figures, gaming consoles, and computers, exploring what it is we collect and remember in museums and recognizing the historical importance of ephemeral culture. The exhibition also features video and sculptural components that challenge the same conventions of memory, obsessions, and "contemporary technological consciousness."

The exhibition opened on September 12 and will run through October 26, with a Street Fighter Tournament hosted by the artist on October 19 at the gallery.
