The work consists of a set of models for houses made out of pinewood. These models are the work of 100 architects from 27 different countries who were asked by Ai Weiwei to design homes, each with a living space of 1,000 square meters, for a region in Inner Mongolia.
While the architectural project has not been realized in Inner Mongolia, the exhibition includes three on-site inspections as well as design sketches and Ordos 100, a film directed by Ai Weiwei.
This is not the first time Ai Weiwei has concerned himself with housing and urban design. This gallery show comes after Ai Weiwei's installation in Germany that consists of 1,000 colorful tents that visitors can camp in. The project, Aus der Aufklärung, opened in June and runs until October 6.
Ai Weiwei's show at Galleria Continua, Le Moulin runs until September 29.
