The 30 Most Famous Muses in Art

5. Anna Karina

Relationship to: Jean-Luc Godard

French director and screenwriter Jean-Luc Godard first saw Anna Karina in Palmolive soap ads that she modeled for in Paris. He then hired her for a role in his film Le Petit Soldat (1960). While shooting the movie in the spring of 1960, they began their relationship. They ended up getting married in 1961, and in her lifetime, she would appear in eight of his movies. However, there was a lot of drama between the couple, which was expressed in Godard's Une femme est une femme (A Woman is a Woman, 1961). Godard was absorbed in his work, much to Karina's chagrin. They divorced in 1965.
