Madonna Raises $8.8 Million for Charity in Sotheby's Auction“Trois Femmes à la Table Rouge" (1921)

We recently reported that Madonna would be auctioning off Fernand Léger's 1921 painting,Trois Femme A La Table Rouge, to raise money for educational initiatives for girls around the world. The painting was sold by Sotheby's in New York on May 7 for a final sale price of $7.16 million ($8.8 million after premiums) to an unidentified buyer.

All of the proceeds will go to the Ray of Light Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to give children in countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan access to educational materials and programming so that they can "contribute positively to their society."
