Zao Wou-ki, China's Highest Selling Living Artist, Dies at 93

Abstract painter Zao Wou-ki, who was recently deemed the highest selling Chinese artist living has died at the age of 93. The Beijing-born artist was known for his use of Chinese techniques mixed with Western aesthetics. Collectors paid high amounts for his works. In 2011, his works sold $90 million at an auction, earning him the distinction of being the top-selling living Chinese artist. Last week one of his paintings entitled “10.03.83” sold for $4.8 million at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong. The artist suffered from Alzheimer's disease and declining health.
