Notable Galleries: Ugly Step Sister, Anode, Black Cloud, Prospectus
One of Chicago's southwest neighborhoods, the Pilsen district is home to a government-sanctioned arts district, numerous art shops and galleries, and an artists' colony or two along 18th Street. A few years ago, a company called Podmajersky began converting old factories and warehouses here into cheap artists lofts. Depending on whom you'd ask, this either is leading to accelerated gentrification or a community atmosphere for artists to live and work together. Whatever it is, Pilsen has become The Spot for many artists in the city to work and exhibit.
