Scrabble

Artist: Alfred Mosher Butts

Year: 1948

Medium: Product Design

Since it first went on sale at Macy's in 1952, Scrabble has sold over 150 million sets and has grown to become one of the most known and played board games in the world. The game was designed while Butts was an unemployed architect during the Depression, and after initially being refused by many game publishers, was brought to its deserved popularity after collaborated revisions were made with a game-passionate entrepreneur.
