Artist: Paul Calle
Year: 1969
Medium: Illustration
While astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins prepared for their Apollo 11 mission, Calle observed and made sketches of the process. The preparations were only open to exclusive access by NASA employees, but Calle had the privilege of watching the astronauts. Calle's final selection, made from over 40 sketches, features Armstrong setting his foot down on the moon, as practiced on Earth.
