The Pratt Institute's 50 Most Groundbreaking Designs

Everyday Monuments

Artist: Jean Shin

Year: 2009

Medium: Installation

Shin reworked over 2,000 athletic trophies that were donated by local residents to create figures of American workers. Her installation is redolent of the protests and celebrations that are held on the National Mall, and depicts a mass of common Americans using trophies originally created as special awards.
