Escif Mural in Peru

Escif Mural in Peru

Escif, described not as an artist or collective but "a situation that involves a lot of people," has been in Cerro de Pasco, Peru preparing a mural that comments on the destructive nature of the mining industry. "In order to expand the vast open pit from which the deposits of minerals are extracted," says Escif, "each year entire neighbourhoods in the town are demolished and their residents forced to relocate." The narrative of the mural follows that statement. It is simple. It is powerful. It is a firm reminder of the challenges of industry and the dangers it poses to community.
