Saying "Brigitte Bardot was once a popular French model..." is like saying "John F. Kennedy was once a popular American president." Do you really think you need to give your readers a pop culture history lesson? Seems kinda insulting.

Trust me - plenty under 30 years old will not have heard of either Kennedy or Bardot with current standards of education and lack of interest in anything historical.
