On October 1, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. will open its exhibition 30 Americans, showcasing many influential and relevant African-American contemporary artists of the last three decades. Artists include Glenn Ligon, Kara Walker, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kehinde Wiley, Purvis Young, and Lorna Simpson.
Currently, the gallery is undergoing a countdown on its website, which started September 1. Each day reveals original content about each artist.
Complex was able to link up with curator Sarah Newman, and she walked us through some key pieces in the exhibit. Check it out in our gallery.
