The politically radical Rose Dudgale broke into the house of former conservative Sir Alfred Beit of de Beers diamonds money, and his wife. With three other IRA members, she pistol-whipped the man of the house, and stole 19 works of art. They later sent a ransom note, asking for the release of two sisters on hunger strike in London's Brixton jail in exchange for the stolen pieces. Sentenced to 11 years in jail after the paintings were recovered, Dugdale refuses to speak about the robbery to this day.
