Look at This! Coca-Cola x Emeco x DWR Navy Chair + 111 Chairs Project
The original Navy Chair was used by the U.S. Navy on destroyers and submarines because it was super lightweight, corrosion-resistant and it was three times stronger than steel, with an estimated lifespan of 150 years. The new 111 Navy Chair sports the same strength and durability, but is made from 111 recycled plastic Coke bottles. The collaboration between Coca-Cola and Emeco is available at Design Within Reach now, for $230. Not only is it half the price of the original, but the project will recycle an estimated 3 million bottles each year that DWR and Coke make them. Recently DWR launched The 111 Navy Chair Project, an art project with 111 designers, artists, and other creative types who are asked to interpret the chair and the concept. Check the site over time to see new creatives added to the list, it's a cool idea. [111navychair] Tags: DWR, 111-chairs-project, chairs, modern-design, recycle
