Kenny Scharf, Oil Painting (2010)Kenny Scharf got a lot of attention recently when his
Houston Street
mural
was bombed by a bunch of writers during a recent snow storm. The controversy stirred considerable
debate about the nature of public art and the impermanence of street art, and also pointed to the lack of talent of a bunch of children with nothing better to do, but we're not going to pass judgement today (ahem). This week Scharf is in the spotlight again, but for less scandalous
reasons. He's got a two-fold exhibition of his trippy paintings opening
today at both
Paul Kasmin Gallery
locations in Chelsea. Check out this preview of the work, and go see the show if
you're in New York City anytime between now and February 26th.
