Jerrod Cornish, the 30-year-old founder of Corpus, puts your pants on, one leg at a time.

"When you start out, you really have to do what you want to wear. We were making this shit because we couldn't find it in the store. So we wanted to create shit we could never find, still keeping it semi-affordable. I'm personally not the type of person to go out and drop $600 on a pair of jeans.

"I really feel that if you're artistic, you can apply that to any design field. It's not necessary to know patternmaking and construction and all of that shit if you have an idea of the garment you want. You'll learn that on the way.

"Then just put that shit in a backpack and walk into the store, cold style, and say, ‘Hi, I have a denim line. Can I show it to you?' When you design a brand, talk to the stores rather than let a sales rep do it. It makes sense for them to see it in that context. The buyer can say, ‘I understand this kind of person.'"Home // STYLE // HOW TO // Making Denim
