"To be successful in this field, you have to understand your show and the way the public perceives you. When I was getting cast on The Real World: San Diego, the show's producers found it interesting that I worked as a bouncer, but on the other hand, I went to art school. A good reality character has contradictions, accepts and shares them.
"I do castings now as well for MTV. For everyone we cast, the commonality is that they don't apologize for the type of person they are. Whether they're loud, quiet, or introverted/extroverted, or all of the above. You immediately spot people who are forcing themselves to
be open.
"Since doing the San Diego show, I've been on MTV's Battle of the Sexes 2, Gauntlet 2, hosted Spring Breaks, and done two or three MTV reunion shows. I haven't had a real job in nearly three years. I go from promotional event to promotional event, doing lectures at colleges, and the occasional challenge. It keeps me busy and puts food on the table. I went to the Playboy Mansion! And really, that was what I wanted to get out of it, you know what I mean?"
