When a man loves a woman who's actually an inanimate object, there are a few things to consider. On the upside, she'll never get upset at being objectified. On the downside, she's stiff in bed and can't cook worth a damn. The protagonist of Mannequin (1987) is Jonathan Switcher (Andrew McCarthy), a shiftless young artist who hasn't made anything of note. That changes when he creates a mannequin so beautiful that he falls in love with the dead wood. It/she ends up in the window of a department store, where Jonathan eventually lands a job as a stock boy. The magic really begins when, in Jonathan's presence, his timber trophy becomes Ema "Emmy" Hesire (Kim Cattrall), an ancient Egyptian from 2514 B.C. Like Weird Science (1985), another memorable create-a-chick flick, the ultimate male fantasy is fulfilled-only instead of Kelly LeBrock, the mannequin becomes the (then) smoking-hot Cattrall, who's definitely got to be worth a splinter or two.
