Actual ending: After his half-brother Ricky is killed on the mean streets of South Central, Tre ignores his father's sage teachings and sets out for revenge, ruining his own life in the process.

M. Night's ending: While you were sitting there naively gnawing on popcorn, all of the above events were actually foretold by a series of cryptic symbols shaved into Tre's head by his father, Furious, during what at the time seemed to be a totally innocuous haircut scene.
