GETTING A LEG UP
After continuing the efflaurage, it’s time for “petrissage,” a deeper massage that resembles kneading dough (and she does have some buttermilk biscuits). It’s tough going at first, but after a couple of “ouches” and one “If you do that again, I’m going to kick you,” I find a stroke that seems to work on her calves: I cup my hands into “C” shapes and perform a wringing motion, moving slowly while applying equal pressure with my thumb and forefingers.
