What happen to the publication? What happen to the CEO/Mr. McLean

“The Urban DJ Magazine”

2003-2005 | NYC

Pitch:
Essentially a trade mag for DJs, each edition of this 12”-vinyl-sized magazine came packaged with an actual record.

Notable For:
"Rewind: The History of the Mixtape" (Volume 20/February/March 2003).

Death Knell:
These days, even for a DJ, a vinyl-sized magazine is about as useful as…uh, vinyl.

Legacy:
The publication existed mostly in the periphery, as it was essentially a B-to-B, but featured early work by former VIBE Executive Editor (and Southern rap journalism stalwart) Benjamin Meadows-Ingram, emix’s most notable E-I-C.

Rating: The publication hardly left a mark but it did serve notice that there are a fuckload of DJs.
