A lot of people are saying Beasley’s gonna be the top pick.
Adam Yauch: Beasley’s really interesting, because he never looks like he’s playing that intensely, whereas Jerryd looks like he’s going at it like he’s ready to kill somebody. Beasely almost looks like he’s hanging back and kind of taking it easy, but he just keeps scoring and he can play any position. I’ve seen him bring the ball up the court and just weave through players. I wonder—it looks like he’s playing so casually—if he could really turn it up a couple notches.
From watching the film, it seems like he’s the most outgoing of all of them.
Adam Yauch: He seems to take over the game. He’s talking shit to everybody, and he kind of takes over the game by just getting inside everybody’s head.
Of the four, Donte Green probably had the least publicity this year.
Adam Yauch: He seems like a really strong player. It seems like he could fill out more, like he’s really tall, but he looks more like a kid than some of the other guys. I don’t think Donte had his best game at the Elite 24 game, but Beasley said that Donte held him to the lowest scoring game that he ever had.
And finally Kevin Love. He probably got the most shine last year after leading UCLA to the Final Four.
Adam Yauch: Love’s got a pretty straightforward game. It’s definitely interesting seeing the way he throws those full court chest passes. He’s amazingly accurate with that—before the Rucker, Kevin threw a full court inbound alley oop to Beasley. He’s definitely powerful and accurate with that shit.
What are your thoughts on the NBA’s One-Year Rule forcing guys that want to go pro straight from high school to play a year of college? Each of the guys we just talked about would have probably been first round picks last year as well.
Adam Yauch: I’ve heard it debated from both sides, but I guess my feeling is once they’re adults, once they’re 18, if they’re old enough to go to the army and kill somebody and get shot, they should be old enough to play basketball all year.
So who do you think the Bulls should take with the no. 1 pick?
Adam Yauch: I would take Beasley and trade him to the Knicks for no money or anything. Give him to the Knicks, that would be my plan. [
Laughs.]
So if the Knicks had the first pick you’d go with Beasley?
Adam Yauch: I think so. I think he’s an all around player. But I don’t know, it’ll be interesting to see any of these guys. I would love to see Jerryd play for the Knicks, I would love to see Kevin play for the Knicks. You know who I would really love to see? I would love to take 12 of the best of these guys—you know, the main eight guys that I profile and like another four of them—and just put together a squad and have them play against the NBA teams. That’s what I would be most interested to see. To see all these kids playing together against these seasoned veterans and see what happen.
How do you think that would go?
Adam Yauch: I have no idea. But I would like to imagine that they would actually win.
