If you're into music then what do you pick for the walk to the Octagon?
Frankie Edgar: I walk out to bunch of different stuff, but mostly Hip-Hop stuff. But I have walked out to...I was out in California and I walked out to
The Sopranos theme song. I felt like it was pretty cool being from Jersey and everything.
Nice. What do you plan to walk out to in Colorado?
Frankie Edgar: I think I'll walk out to a Biggie song, "Kick in the Door." I just listened to it in my car; it kind of got me hyped up. You know that's how it usually comes about man. You know when you try to think about what song to run out to is just whatever that catches you at the time.
What's the best part about punching someone in the face?
Frankie Edgar: Ah man. It's that you can't get in trouble for it. You know what I mean?
Growing up, in high school and in college, you get into fights and you're always worrying about getting arrested. You don't have to worry about that anymore.
[laughs] That's definitely a plus. During the photo shoot you mentioned you were into motorcycles. What kind of bike are you riding?
Frankie Edgar: Yea, I got a Honda CBR 600. I like goin' fast man. Those bikes go fast real quick you know?
Are you pro or anti-helmet?
Frankie Edgar: Jersey's got the helmet law so I rock with it.
Would you go without it if you could?
Frankie Edgar: I think I'd wear it you know? If you fall the helmet will save you. I don't know how much it's going to do when you're going real fast though.
Did Frank Mir's motorcycle injury make you think twice about riding?
Frankie Edgar: You know? I don't know man. I mean, I don't live life like that. You kind of can't. I mean I could get hurt, walking down the steps. You know? Be careful on the bike. You know you could only be so careful because you have to worry about other people.
What was going through your mind when Tyson Griffin locked you up in that knee bar during your debut fight?
Frankie Edgar: I was just like "Fuck!" You know what I mean? I felt like he was just really gassed, and I thought I could possibly finish the fight at that point or definitely pretty much roll out a nice third round. Last minute there and credit to him, he lulled me to sleep a little bit, and you know and swung for the knee bar. It was great execution on his part. I was hit, and I was like "Shit." But I knew it wasn't much time, and the guy started getting tight, and started getting tight. I'm like, "You know what? I'm just not tapping." He would have had to break it.
Wow. That's pretty nasty, that's Did you have to limp through a long recovery process?
Frankie Edgar: Yeah, I was hopping around for maybe week and a half, but it wasn't serious...I guess I have good knees or something.
