DJ GREEN LANTERN
Genius’s stay thinking ahead. When the mixtape market started to decline DJ Green Lantern shifted his hustle from a disc-peddling heavyweight, to a seasoned producer. As a multifaceted talent in the music industry, he boasts credits from D-Block’s 2 “Guns Up,” Luda’s “Number One Spot” and Immortal Technique’s fiery “Bin Laden” record. Although he’s no drama king, Green’s controversial footage of him siding with Jadakiss during Jada’s short-spat with 50 Cent caused him to step down as Eminem’s tour DJ. Now, three years later, with a recent hug-it-out moment with Curtis behind him, Green Lantern is focused on co-producing Uncle Murda’s uber-gutter debut. We sat down with the capo of Team Invasion to talk reconciling with Fiddy, Murda’s authenticity, neutrality and his overall disappoint with hip-hop.

Complex: There was a video of you with 50 Cent and the G-Unit Camp making amends how did that come about?
Green Lantern: There was a meeting set up from Nelson, a radio guy that works with G-Unit, and I’ve known him for a while. I knew him before everything, going back at least 10 years. So we just connected. Basically he was like “Listen, this has been going on for too long,” so he actually set up the meeting. He was like “I’m just going to call you one day and be like ’Yo, come into the office.’” So, he called me one day and said, “Yo, come into the office.” I went up there and 50 was like “What’s good? What’s going on?” I wasn’t going in there with hat in hand, but I guess just the gesture of me going in was enough for him to be like “All right, fuck it.” He understands that it wasn’t anything like “What were you thinking?” There wasn’t any of that. It was really surprising actually, to see how cool he was about the shit. We ended up talking about an hour, just about the business, getting money, all kinds of shit.
C: Do you guys plan on working together?
Green Lantern: There are no plans, but it definitely feels like all bad energy is washed away. So it feels like there’s an open lane. If I were to go and cook a beat up and go holler at him, there wouldn’t be anything standing in the way of it. But there’s no plan as of yet. I’m not against it, and it doesn’t seem like he is.
C: There wasn’t any talk about anything that happened in the past?
Green Lantern: Actually, he expressed a little bit about how he saw my side of it. That was a little bit of a surprise. I was at least expecting to hear the “You had it all!” [
laughs] He just completely understood. He was kind of like “I think I get it. I think I get it why you felt that way.” It was just a very fucking cool moment.
