Hollywood's all about showbiz, and selling cars there isn't any different. That's why veteran stand-up comic Ron Robertson of Maybach Beverly Hills is the city's go-to luxury vehicle dealer."
There are12 Maybach dealers in the area and I sell more than all them combined. Why? I offer a better show with selling the car," says the laconic Texas transplant. "It's my job to immerse the buyer in the ether of the Maybach. You can't sell a depreciating item in a $500,000 range and convince them it's a good idea. Sometimes they know, sometimes they don't. I use my skills as a stand-up to essentially treat clients like a heckler by making them laugh, taking what they say, turning it around, and having fun with it."
But why Maybach? "It's funny,[billionaire pioneering space tourist] Dennis Tito, he bought the first Maybach 62 in L.A. with a partition," says Robertson. "When he got it, he looked at me and said, 'Ron, I haven't bought anything since space.' I got him in the backseat of the 62, reclined the seat, and said, 'Does this remind you of anything?'" And they say used car salesmen have the slickest lines.
